Frequently asked questions.
Where is Universal Sydney located?
You’ll find us at 85-95 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst — in the heart of Sydney’s queer nightlife scene. Just a short walk from Museum Station & Hyde Park!
What nights are you open?
We're open 7 nights a week, and have drag shows every single night!
Is Universal a gay bar?
Yes, and more. Universal is proudly queer-operated, and we welcome everyone under the rainbow (and beyond). Come as you are, whoever you are.
What time do the drag shows start?
Showtimes depend on each night of the week! Check out our What’s On for more specific info on start times. And keep in mind it takes a hot minute for these Diva’s to get into the zone but ask our friendly bar team for more info on timings! Our mainstage shows typically kick off between 10-11pm, with more performances throughout the night. Come early to grab a good spot!
Do I need to book to see the show?
No booking needed for the main room (except for our Drag Race Viewing Parties). Walk-ins are always welcome. But if you want to sip cocktails in style before the show, we recommend booking a spot in the Banana Bar HERE.
Is Universal accessible?
Yes, the Universal Main Room & Banana Bar are wheelchair accessible. If you have specific access needs or questions, please reach out prior to your visit. The Upstairs Superclub unfortunately is not Wheelchair accessible.
What’s your ID and age policy?
We are a licensed 18+ venue. You’ll need a valid photo ID for entry - no exceptions.
Do you allow photography or video during shows?
You’re welcome to snap a memory or two, but please respect the performers and other guests. Professional filming requires prior approval.
Do you have a lockout?
Universal does not have a lockout, however it is house policy to stop entry an hour before the venue closes. This gives time for the bar to close shortly after and for the venue to wind down naturally so our closing experience isn’t too jarring for our guests.
